The Clinic to College Mentoring Program is designed to help at-risk, low income children,
ages 9 – 15, who live in the Inland Valley of Southern California. The overwhelming majority of studies have shown that the single most powerful intervention that can be done in the life of an at-risk child is mentoring. However, most poor children are not connected with mentoring programs because their parents are struggling merely to survive and cannot arrange enrichment opportunities for their children.

Clinic to College is designed to bring mentoring to the lowest income children who need it most. The mentors function both as role models and friends to the young people, but also as their "window to the outside world," showing them what opportunities can be theirs if they succeed in school. Most of the children in our program do not know anyone who has completed an education, and they find it hard to believe that they can be a success.

In addition to mentoring, Clinic to College provides tutors to those children who need help in a particular academic area. We also provide social services to stabilize the young person's family when any issues arise, such as loss of a job, loss of housing, or shortages of food and clothing. By helping the families to resolve their crises, we also are protecting the children's ability to function in school and continue their educational progress.

This volunteer opportunity is ideal for any adult who wants to help children in the communities of La Verne, Claremont, Pomona, Montclair, Upland, Rancho Cucamonga, and Ontario.
